Calabogie Peaks - February 7, 2016

Sunday was my second outing to this season to Calabogie and I was surprised how much impact last weeks rains had on the hill.  Ice may have formed on Calabogie lake but the snow coverage was significantly less on the mountain than my last visit Jan. 23rd.  This was evident as I took the Solar Quad up the hill and looked at sections of Barrett Chute and Face of Tiger.  Much of the accumulated snow on Barrett Chute had disappeared and there were exposed sections at the top of Face of Tiger. Morning conditions on runs such as High Falls, Shantyman, Causeway and Finnegans were good with groomed granular conditions.  By mid-afternoon many of these runs were icy with the occasional exposed rock.


The hill was a busy place on Sunday with a U12 race being held on Whistlin'Paddy and the Freestyle Skiing Ontario's Timber Tour holding an event on the Face of Tiger. The lodge was at times packed, but an outdoor BBQ and firepit created a good ambiance and gave skiers some options for places to sit and eat.

An all-day adult pass costs $42, which is discounted during the week. Skiers can also purchase a 4hr pass. The hill is open 9-4 daily.  Calabogie is located approximately 100km west of Ottawa, southwest of Arnprior, Ont. Conditions on Sunday were overcast.

Lots of great trails at Calabogie. Always visited when the Lakeview quad was not running, so never experienced Black Donalds and the view. Hopefully next time.

Face of Tiger is one hell of a drop. Good to get the blood pumping and the heart racing on the coldest days!

      What to Know Before You Arrive:
      Masks are required inside all buildings and outside in queues (ticket window, lift lines, and chairlifts).
      Bags of any kind (boot bags, lunch bags, etc) are not permitted inside any building. We ask that guests dawn their boots in their vehicle.
      Indoor seating is only available for patrons of Mountain Cat Cafeteria.
      Indoor bathroom facilities will be open with limited capacity.
      Tickets & Rentals are only available from the outside windows of the Adventure Centre.
      Bagged lunches may be eaten in vehicles or at outdoor seating areas.
      You may not see it behind our masks, but we promise our staff are smiling - be kind, be patient, be safe.

      Up and at ‘em snow lovers – the mountain is open Saturday and Sunday. $25 tickets
       Lifts are on 9AM to 4PM.
      Our mountain ops team has O’Brien’s and Shantyman open from top to bottom along with the beginner bowl.  Shake off the summer sand and get the winter vibe at The Peaks, the big mountain close to home.

      We will be opening this weekend Saturday and Sunday from 9-4pm with the Vanier Chairlift. Mont Ste-Marie has had substantial natural snow combined with snowmaking will provide fantastic groomed conditions on Serenade and Calve. Trekking opportunities will be available on Crescendo.
