Paul
@OceanBelieve it or not, I've only visited Tremblant. Never skied it, have really no plans to either. Not my "cup of tea". Same goes for Bromont. I have gone to Bromont once, and only once back in 1982 for 83 when there was only the double chair to the summit where the chondola is now..........yeah I know I'm old lol!. Orford, Sutton, and Owl's Head are as big as I'll ski. Sure I've skied Bretton Woods in the past but it doesn't have same feel as Tremblant or Bromont has, and Bretton Woods is the largest ski area in New Hampshire (until Balsam's Wilderness reopens, if it ever does in its expanded state). I'm not drawn to places like that, especially for what they charge for tix. Ocean and Matteo C
Matteo C
@PaulI heard about and looked into the Balsams, as they have a large expansion plan. After looking into it, their biggest issue is lack of investor interest, as the resort is located too far north from most cities, and plans to expand to be even larger than Killington-pipe dreams unfortunately. Paul
@Matteo C Yeah the Balsam's project.........it's been since at least 2014 that this has been going on. Les Otten was lead on this buildout I believe. I'm not sure if it is still leading it. It surely is too far north, but it is not that far away from where I'm located. Maybe an hour and a half you have a smooth crossing at Customs. I have been by the mountain a few times on the way to Maine. It looks interesting and when I visited the site in 2017 and the lifts were still in place. It's a huge expansion for the ski area. The Balsams hotel was a happening place back in the day. Matteo C
@PaulAccording to their website and facebook page, the expansion is still on, but I have heard that Les Otten might have an issue finding enough investors. If you check out their video, you'll see that they have some really cool plans, such as a lift servicing only gladed terrain, a first of its kind! However, the most I can see is an updated hotel and probably the existing ski hill becoming operational again, but not much more than that.
