Sommet Edelweiss changes for 2019-20 season

Round No More!

Yes the round house of the chalet is gone. Currently there is part of a foundation on the ground that seems to be forming but the chalet itself is now capped off at the end. As such, it is difficult to say if there will be an addition built to the chalet or what is going to take its place.

Now that we are at the start of September, it will be interesting to see what will be done for the ski season that will start in about 3 months time. Also note that the small race equipment / CADS shack to the right of the old round house is also gone.

The shape of that new addition is hard to interpret. Not sure if it would contain stairs or a replacement ramp to the upper floor. If it does not, the central stairs near the main entrance would be the only ones. Also interesting to note is the removal of the little terrace and stairs outside that were between the chalet and roundhouse.

Anyone know what's going on?

In any case, it has me quite interested. I'll try to go by again in the coming weeks to see what has developed and report back.

And a shot looking up the mountain at the Meister 4000 superquad.

Here is a photo of the "annex". Judging by what I saw when I went by a few weeks ago it seemed to look like it would be right next to the chalet or attached to it.

The description in french lists the following:

Major point "2 million investment". Perhaps the existing chalet will be replaced the following year as well.

This is a nice design and love that it will be a great viewing space for the non-skiers, and perhaps a new space for events too! The roundhouse will be missed. I hope they are including an upgrade to their bathrooms which could use the same kind of update they did at Sommet Saint-Sauveur!

Kinda funny that Sommet Edelwiess can blow 2 million bucks on a new lodge but do nothing to improve the skiing on the hill.  I'd rather have a new run or a new lift.  Bring back Tommy Pic aka DOA aka DNF at least.  Or open up some glades next to Shotgun.

Patrick of Ski Mad World posted some pictures on facebook a week or so ago, one of which is the current progress on the chalet. Doesn't look super encouraging for being ready in 2 months, will probably open later than the start of the season.

The original plans many many years ago (before the snowtubing park) was for another 2-3 trails top to bottom to the right of DNF, with a new lift. That dissapeared from the trail map in the early 2000s, and around the same time the snowtubing park came to be. I'm sure from a business standpoint the tubing makes more money and return than the 2-3 trails would have. But by doing this they boxed in the mountain to the point I don't see where they could add more trails or expand. Potentially more trails up top, that lead into a funnel area that then ended to the right near the bottom of Shotgun to spill out there.... who know, but probably won't see anything anytime soon.

The detachable quad was built in 1987... interested, worried to see the day that needs to be replaced... fixed grip instead? It might not go super high speed like it should (and used to) but it is still faster than the two other quads on the mountain.
