Paul
During the night Thursday into this morning a major fire destroyed the main chalet at Ski Val St.Come, located in the Lanaudière region of Québec. The fire started in the back of the chalet and spread rapidly throughout the building totally destroying it. The cafeteria, ski rental shop, ticket office, and other offices were located in the chalet. A secondary chalet that is under construction beside the main chalet was not burned. The autumn festivities that were to take place this weekend have been cancelled. It is still too early to tell what caused the fire. All of the mountains lines of communication have destroyed. At this time the mountain’s Diector General Maxime Legros has said this is a major loss, and that they still intend on being ready to open for the season December 1st. Here is the link to the story and interview with M. Legros on TVA earlier on this morning. https://www.tvanouvelles.ca/2018/09/21/le-chalet-de-la-station-de-ski-val-saint-come-detruit-par-le-feu
Shane
This is horrible news. I sincerely hope it is not a criminal act that took place and the news so far is saying that so far it isn't. With several acts of vandalism over the past 2 or so years, most recently on one of the lift operator shacks this summer. Very disappointing news to read. I just read it and I'm still in shock. Definitely not what was needed this close to the start of the season. Let's hope things can be turned around quickly and the resources are available to rebuild what was lost. Luckily they have a second building nearby, although smaller that can and probably will be used over the winter. The news reports that the second building escaped the fire, and was actually in the process of being renovated and expanded. Very sad news. All the best wishes to them during the recovery efforts.
