Raccoon, a Quebec-based company making skis out of Quebec maple and poplar, has released their new line! Black Friday will have 15-25% off some of their skis. You can see the whole new collection in person at Cycles Régis in Mile End or online here: http://www.raccoonskis.com/en/skis. I literally want to buy all of them! I found in their line the perfect new ski for me: the Grizzly 99! I have yet to choose a binding and will be waiting until there are a few more inches on the ground to give them a test run but I am stoked!

So I have two pairs of boots and skis aligned to each set of boots. The first are Nordicas I got in 2013, a 26.5, half size too big (I had a twisted ankle when I bought them, and the larger size served me well during recovery). I skied with them about three years, til the padding started to wear down and I felt they were getting a bit too slippy. Then I got some Lange 25.5 which is supposedly my actual size (or has been, until now). I had to do significant modification to these, because I have no dorsiflex, ankle issues, and a high arch, so they have a lift, an insole, and some other work done on them. After that work was done, these boots did pretty well by me…

Every season, Kunstadt Sports visits the region's ski mountains, allowing skiers to demo the latest skis and bindings on the slopes. There's no better way to decide on a new pair of skis than having the opportunity to actually try them out on the hill. Even more, you can try several different pairs to easily compare how they perform. With that said, here's the current schedule for this season. Be sure to check the official Kunstadt Sports webpage (and Facebook) to confirm the demo day. https://kunstadt.com/pages/2018-19-ski-demo-schedule Kunstadt Demo Schedule 2018/2019 DECEMBER: Dec 27 - Calabogie Dec 28 - Edelweiss Dec 29 - Cascades …

A friend passed this along to me, sounds like an annual ski industry exposition featuring resorts and gear and all kinds of things! Link below (french only). In addition to that, there is also ski films being presented. I'm going to Sauveur to actually ski tomorrow instead of looking at ski things, but if I start my day early enough I'll try and stop into this event as well. Location: Théâtre Desjardins, 1111 Rue Lapierre, LaSalle, QC, H8N 2J4 Participants: Air Canada Big White Blizzard Avalanche Québec Club Med Dalbello Fernie Fondation Martin Matte IKON PASS Jackson Hole Japan Endless discovery Kicking Horse Killington La Cordée …

Hey guys, time for me to get a new pair of goggles! My main pair is a custom made Disorient branded pair of goggles that was designed in NYC and produced in China for Burning Man 2011....I already broke one pair, lost another, and am on my final pair that a good friend gifted to me. So last season I impulsed purchased a some Marker goggles (the blue/purple lens seen in my more recent photos) and I HATE THEM!!! There is a visible line that runs aorund the inside of the lens and it is so high off the edge of the lens that there is constantly this line in my field of vision while I'm skiing and it makes me crazy. I'm prone to migraines from visual disturbances so I tend to o…

One of my co-workers (quick shout out to Philippe), showed me this today. It's called Snowfeet, clip on to your boots to allow you to 'ski' down the mountain. Seems to be available in short and longer versions. I guess it could be seen as the next evolution of snowblades but even smaller. The riders in the video seem to be moving at a fairly decent speed, but I'm not sold on the overall safety just yet. You can learn more here: https://www.snowfeetstore.com/about What are your thoughts? Have you previously heard of this or seen anyone using them?

Selling a decent pair of Elan Spectrum 105 ALU 2013 skis. Elan changed the model name to Ripstick last year. They come with almost mint 2014 AAA attack bindings that go up to DIN 13. The skis are from 2013 and are 180cms. The side cut is 142-105-120. Turning radius is 18.1 meters. These skis are fast! great in crud, spring corn and powder but also carve hardpack really well as they have Amphibio tech. Rocker on the outer edge, camber on the inside. A great all mountain ski for a big guy. Bindings are set for 327mm boots but can probably be adjusted about 10-15mms. The skis have some minor top sheet nicks and some very minor base scratches. No core shots. Lots of ski seas…

As a preview to my upcoming trip report, the shop Dan Lachance in Tremblant is having a huge sale on clothing (I don't know about boots/skis as I wasn't looking for those and didn't ask about pricing, but they also have a ton of selection and definitely some sale pricing). They have all brands such as Obermeyer (there is a $3000 all jean onesie!) and Mammut among many other brands for men and women. I got a $759 hot pink Mammut Biwak down stuffed jacket with orange trim and fluoro blue lining for half price, so about $375. I also got a lightweight zip up jacket that I'd previously seen in Killington for $300+ USD for about $125. Thankfully I arrived there just before thei…

Last Monday when I was out skiing at Mont Ste Marie, I noticed that my helmet had developed a large crack along the side above the ears. It wasn't involved in an accident but it was getting kind of old so no doubt wear and tear and age. In any case, I made sure to replace it this week. The friendly people at Kunstadt Sports helped set me up with a new POC Orbic X. I prefer the full shell helmets over the half shell (with soft ear covers) as they provide better protection. Long story short, if you are reading this, take a minute or two to inspect your helmet for cracks or separation. If there is any damage, replace your helmet. Helmets are designed to crack durin…

As winter approaches I always get an itching to buy another pair of skis. I guess I'm addicted. I'm curious what others in the area are riding on? Does everyone stick to a single pair or do they have a "quiver" of options. Right now for alpine this is what I'm using: Main ski - Fischer Ranger 90TI (it really has a 92 waist at 186cms) 125-92-114 Fatter ski - Elan Spectrum ALU 105, Amphibio (left and right ski) 180cms (142-105-120) heavy rock solid ride. Great for crud, spring snow and powder. Backcountry ski - Atomic Drifter 182cms with Hammerhead Telemark bindings, plus Atomic skins. (132-95-121)

In 2013 I injured my ankle and picked up two new pairs of ski boots at the T&L liquidation sale, I went a size up as my ankle issues at the time made my normal boot size unbearable. I never ended up wearing these Lange Blaster Pro men's 26.5 boots. Paid the sale price of $250, asking $200. The boots are in Ottawa, and I am in Montreal, so it might take a few days to arrange a fitting or pickup of the boots for anyone who wants them.

I though some of you might find this newish product interesting. OAC skis out of Finland is making a snowshoe/ski hybrid. Basically its a short fat powder ski, with some built in mohair under foot for climbing. The bindings are like a snow shoe binding so you can use winter boots. You could probably also mount telemark spring bindings on the skis. Anyway I noticed MEC is selling them in Ottawa and La Cordee in Montreal. Info on the company and ski models here: http://www.skinbased.com/ I think these would work great doing backcountry in the Gatineaus or on steepish snowshoe trails, like at Mont Cascade.

Good day, I was wandering how I could put my snow back into shape : a good wax, sharpen the sides and the varnish on top. I came back from Lake Louise a couple months ago and had to send my snowboard by greyhound. The sticker they put on the top of it, ripped some of the clearcoat when I took it off. Preferably, to be done myself of course. Frédéric
