Ski Vorlage - January 27, 2022

After last week's snowfall, and having a few days off from work, it was high time to make a return to the slopes. With the variety of trails offered, I made the choice of visiting Ski Vorlage, a mountain I always love visiting. All of the main trails are open, with the exception of Carnaval, Chien Chaud, La Chute and Headwall. The conditions at the moment are absolutely fantastic. Perfect snow coverage and a nice soft top layer of nicely groomed snow. We have definitely been fortunate with the natural snow this January, as well as the cold weather.  While the morning started off being fairly cold, I arrived at 11:30 am and took advantage of the Weekday 4Hr rate of $36 + tax. Vorlage now has RFID gates installed at the chairlifts, so once you have your lift ticket reloadable card, future visits can be paid (or reloaded) from their website and you can then head directly to the lifts to start your day. Of course, I had to show vaccine proof but once that is noted down on your account...

Centre Vorlage

Ski Vorlage is located in beautiful Wakefield, Quebec, about 30 minutes away from downtown Ottawa. This ski resort is one of the most family-friendly ski areas in the Gatineau mountains. Just visit the mountain and you will see the difference. You will find plenty of young families, kids, and adults, who want to enjoy the sport of skiing. Ski Vorlage also pays special attention to grooming, ensuring a nice corduroy white carpet on which to learn, carve and ski. Ski Vorlage has a vertical drop of 140 metres, spread over 18 trails, with 13 open at night. The mountain has 3 double chairlifts, a t-bar and a magic carpet. The Mountain and the Ski Trails You will find a great variety of trails, from beginner to expert. The trails all have a constant incline to them, so you won't find any flat sections. For the absolute novice, La Pente Douce is the easiest trail in the beginner's area, and definitely the best choice to do your first turns and learn the basics. The trail is very gently pitche...

Ski Vorlage - April 1, 2018

SDRX3914.thumb.jpg.d37ae0d57eaacb30e12dbc2b49e360bb.jpg

It's the first day of April and the real start of spring skiing for me. Today's destination was Ski Vorlage, located in the picturesque village of Wakefield. Easter usually signifies the conclusion of the ski season for many ski areas, and at Vorlage, today was the penultimate day. The mountain was very quiet during my morning visit as there couldn't have been more than two dozen people skiing. Either it was the Easter holiday or the complete lack of snow in the city that stopped people from coming... their loss, as the skiing was great. The base in the morning was hard and firm but well groomed (typical of early morning spring skiing). As the morning progressed, the sun did its work softening out the snow into a creamy surface. The weather was hovering around 0'c but felt somewhat colder due to a fairly strong wind all morning. The beginner areas of La...

Well I did it. I managed to check out every ski hill in the Ottawa/Gatineau area at least once this season. Some a lot more then once (Fortune, MSM). Anyway this afternoon Vorlage was serene with maybe a dozen people on the entire resort, perfect coverage, 17 of 18 runs open and a blue bird day with the temperature just above zero.  The place had the three main double chairs running, no t-bars.  The day felt mellow so I took it easy cruising the blues and blacks for a couple hours.  Only Headwall was closed which was a bummer but hey if I wanted a day of double diamonds I wouldn't have gone to Vorlage.  The town of Wakefield has a great vibe and Vorlage is a bit of a throwback to the days when skiing was about skiing and being with the family. Where is everyone?  Get out skiing people this weekend will be great.  ...

What an incredible day at Ski Vorlage. I have been trying my best this season to be at the mountains in time for opening but this is the first time this year I had first chair (after the ski patrol that is). Let me tell you right from the start, the conditions were perfect. A light snow was falling during the morning and the previous night had left some fresh snow as well. For nearly the first hour, I was treated to perfectly groomed corduroy slopes all over. I started my visit by riding up the blue chair, and taking Snow Dance and then Chute and finishing off on North Slope. The drop on Chute is really something, gives you a big burst of speed and makes you work on your turns as it is quite narrow. Chute isn’t long but it’s a lot of fun. The next trail for me...

Ski Vorlage - February 1, 2015

vorlage-chalet.jpg

Ski Vorlage is a mountain I grew up on, that truly built my passion and love for skiing. With 17 trails, spread across an expansive mountain, there is plenty to love. Ski Vorlage is widely known as a family ski resort. Everything is built for families, from the gentle beginner trails, to the spacious lodge that overlooks all the trails, to the snow school. This mountain gets the formula right for families and children and takes pride in it. I have never visited where I didn't see kids happy and enjoying their time on snow. All the staff are enthusiastic as are the snow school instructors. For those visiting without children, the mountain is mainly free of the louder teenage groups, so your experience will be calm, enjoyable and memorable for all the right reasons. La Pente Douce is the easiest trail, served by a double chairlift. While the mountain doesn't...
