May 6-12, 2013 : Where to ski this week

May 06 2013 The temperatures are beginning to soar, with highs of 25'C. Summer is definitely around the corner, but winter still holds on in a couple places.

Mont Saint-Sauveur has a great weekend offering 2 trails with perfect conditions and great ambiance. Three other resorts in the North East USA were also open, which included Killington, Sugarbush and Sugarloaf.

At this point, everything is closed.

Mont Saint-Sauveur are planning to reopen (Weather permitting) this coming weekend, May 11 and 12th for their final 2 days of skiing.

The mountain is closed this week and might open again this coming weekend May 11-12 weather permitting.

Killington will reopen Friday-Sunday next weekend, and will continue to do so as long as snow conditions permit. They are teasing at staying open until the first week of June. Time will tell.
Here's the official word from their website.

Next weekend we plan to offer intermediate and advanced terrain only off the Superstar Express Quad. Lift tickets will be $39 for adults. Plus, bring a 2012/13 Season Pass or lift ticket from another resort and we'll give you 50% off on Friday and 25% off on Saturday and Sunday.

The Superstar Express Quad will spin 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Friday and 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Spring Operations Outlook
Starting May 6, we will be closed Monday - Thursday and open Friday - Sunday through June 2, 2013, conditions permitting.

Have a great week.

Mother Nature responds with another snow storm on the way

Apr 10 2013
This season has been full of surprises, many well deserved after the most recent winter that left much to be desired. In fact, the ski resorts of Quebec agree that this year has been the best of the past 5 years.

While many people are happy to be seeing grass again, one individual "Mother Nature" has responded otherwise. Weather forecasts are calling for 20-30cm in many regions, most notably, the Ottawa / Gatineau region and the Laurentians. While many have started getting used to the sight of grass in the city, this latest storm will once again prove that mother nature hasn't said her last word on winter.

This coming weekend, many ski resorts across Quebec are still operating, after which, very few will remain.

In the Gatineau region, Camp Fortune promises to be open Saturday and Sunday with 5 trails on the Skyline side of the mountain. Mont Cascades also has plans to reopen, but have yet to confirm at the time of this writing.

In the Laurentians, there are many choices, most notably Mont Saint-Sauveur and Mont Tremblant.

In the Eastern Townships, Sutton, Bromont, Owl's Head and Orford will be in operation.

In the Quebec City region, Mont-Sainte-Anne is still holding strong. Le Massif du Sud is exceptionally stretching their season, claiming that thanks to 7 metres of snowfall this season, they could stay open into June. Only time will tell how far they will let things last.

The ski season is ramping down, many have already stored their equipment and are taking out their bikes. Seeing grass on the ground around your home and in the city does go a long way to keeping people away from the ski trails, reserving the mountains for the most devout followers of snow sports.

Amazing bumps and moguls form under the sun. The trails become more forgiving, letting you enjoy your favorite sport in new ways.

Enjoy this weekend. It definitely will be memorable, but it certainly won't be the last for skiing this year. The famous spring skiing ambiance, at and around the chalets, the terraces and the open BBQs, are the best way to enjoy the changing seasons with friends and family.
