Beautiful day for biking with my friends Cynthia and Donald. Nice warm weather and plenty of sun in Ottawa.
We started our trip from the World Exchange Plaza downtown, and proceeded to the Alexandria Bridge to Hull. Followed the bike paths behind the Museum of Civilization to Place du Portage. Crossed back into Ottawa and passed the War Museum to meet up with the bikeway for the Ottawa River Parkway. Continued on as far as Westboro Beach.
The next leg of our journey took us back to Lebreton Flats and Bayview station to ride the O-Train to Carleton University. From there, we rode to the locks and towards Dow's Lake.
Stopped at Mexicali Rosa's for lunch at the Dow's Lake Pavillion. The final leg took us down the Rideau Canal, passing Lansdowne Park and then crossing the Pretoria Bridge. Continued on to the pedestrian bridge by Ottawa U, riding past the National Arts Centre and up to the War Memorial.
A 'victory walk' down Sparks Street to Metcalfe and back into the World Exchange.
A rough estimate on Google Earth puts this trip at around 25-27km in distance travelled. Lots of people were out today enjoying the great weather and the extensive pathways throughout the National Capital.
As the season is just beginning, some construction is occuring at various points along the canal or on the pathways, but short easy detours are setup where the path is closed.
Overall a fantastic day and a great start to the new season! Thanks again Cynthia and Donald for enjoying the day and the ride with me!
